VNIPIET (All-Russia Science Research and Design Institute of Power Engineering Technology)

Deals with all aspect of complex design work in the field of construction, reconstruction and technical re-equipment of nuclear power installations, radiochemical plants including handling of radioactive waste. Participated actively in the design work for RBMK units. Project of an underground 600MW is underway.

Main activites (all engineering except reactor):
. Experimental development of radiation protection technique
. Research work on water, purification and control of water coolant for thermal power plant boilers
. Development and manufacture of instruments for decontamination of equipment, compartments, elimination of radioactive pollutants

Areas of work:
. construction of NPPs
. reconstruction of NPPs
. refurbishment of NPPs
. development of MKER-800 (a new safer RBMK)
. Decontamination
. R&D work on water treatment, purification and control of water coolant for NPP boilers
. research in radiation effect on materials
. corrosion research in NPPs
. Reactor decommissioning and conservation
. Development of robots and manipulators
. transport of radioactive waste
. treatment of radioactive waste
. storage of radioactive waste (is involved with BNFL in the design of waste storage at Mayak)

Urals Branch at Ozersk (Chelyabinsk-65) - involved in the design of the storage unit for Plutonium and Highly Enriched Uranium at Ozersk. Has division in Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Sosnovy Bor as well.
