Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH, Institute for Safety Research and Reactor Technology (ISR) | Forschungszentrum Juelich(FZJ – Research Centre Juelich) is one of 16 national research centres in the Federal Republic of Germany. A staff of more than 4600 is working there in five socially relevant subject areas: energy, environment, life, information and matter. In energy research fusion, fission and fuel cells are in the centre of interest. FZJ developed and constructed the 15 MWe Experimental Nuclear Power Plant AVR (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Versuchsreaktor) with Pebble-bed High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor and operated this reactor on site for about 21 years. The reactor was shut down in 1988 and is now going to be decommissioned to the greenfield.
Waste management is one of the major topics in nuclear energy research at FZJ, which is conducted in its Institute for Safety Research and Reactor Technology (ISR), Nuclear Waste Management Section. A staff of 45 employees works in the field of characterisation, treatment and storage/disposal of radioactive wastes and spent fuel. Partitioning and transmutation of long-lived radionuclides is of special interest. To perform these investigations, ISR operates radiochemical laboratories and hot cells fully equipped with necessary radioanalytical tools. | Main email: | to send an email to this company click here |
